Assessing your strengths and weaknesses

Strengths - you have them but can you name them? Can you tell a story about your main strength is and how you used it at work? Strengths are great but they can be overused and become a weakness. Can you identify your and talk about them? Think of strengths as being energizing and engaging for you. Notice those times when you enjoy a task or activity, forget the time maybe. Later, you look forward to doing it again. A weakness is the opposite. Those activities sap your energy and you don't look forward to them. It probably takes extra motivation to do those things and courage to overcome the weakness. I have included a few resources here to help you explore strengths:

  1. One of the easiest assessments is to keep a note of when you use notice strengths and weaknesses during a week. During the upcoming week, record your “green” (strengths) and “red” (weaknesses) moments daily. Make a table and in the first column write a brief description of the activity. Indicate energy levels per activity by registering the extent to which the activity at hand enhanced energy or depleted energy. In the second column, put a sign next to each activity to indicate the change in energy level.

  2. Try this free "top 5" strength assessment online: https://www.truity.com/test/big-five-personality-test

  3. If you get into this then you can do a longer test of personality traits: https://www.truity.com/test/30-trait-personality-test

  4. If you have $19 to spare, you might like this VIA test which is well-known: https://www.viacharacter.org/reports/top-5

Most job seekers want to find ways to enhance their vocabulary to describe themselves. You can adopt new words to describe skills and values (see the other resources on this page) an also strengths. Here is a list of words you can use and Google:

I extracted the list from an excellent webpage which is an easy yet fairly long read about strengths:
